The Top 10 Features of iOS 17 That You Don’t Want to Miss

Apple has pushed the iOS 17, the latest version of its operating system for iPhone. iOS 17 is available for download right now (September 18 2023), and this update has new features and enhancements to make your iPhone more personal, powerful, and fun. Here are some of the highlights of iOS 17 that you should know.

Phone

iOS 17 introduces some new ways to customize and manage your phone calls. You can now create a Contact Poster, which is a personalized image that shows up when you call someone. You can choose from various treatments for photos, Memoji, and your name, and share your Contact Poster automatically with your contacts. You can also send a call to Live Voicemail, which lets you see a live transcription of the message and pick up the call as they are leaving it. If you have dual SIM, you can set different ringtones for each SIM and choose which one to use when returning a call from an unknown number.

Messages

iOS 17 makes messaging more fun and convenient with new features and improvements. You can now access all your stickers in one place, including Live Stickers, which are animated stickers created from your Live Photos. You can also react to a message with any sticker through the plus button or the Tapback menu. You can search for messages more easily by combining filters such as people, keywords, and content types. You can also swipe to reply to a message inline, pause and resume recording an audio message, and view a transcription of an audio message. Additionally, you can share your location or request someone else's location directly from the plus button in Messages with the new Location app.

FaceTime

iOS 17 adds some cool new features to FaceTime, Apple's video calling app. You can now record a video or audio message when someone misses your FaceTime call. You can also react with your hands by using gestures that trigger 3D augmented reality effects like hearts, confetti, fireworks, and more. Moreover, you can use your iPhone as a camera and start a FaceTime call directly from the FaceTime app on Apple TV, or hand off the call from your iPhone to your TV.

StandBy

iOS 17 introduces a new full-screen experience called StandBy, which makes your iPhone more useful when you set it down while charging. You can turn your iPhone on its side and see live activities in full screen, such as the score of a game or the progress of your food delivery. You can also ask Siri questions and see rich visual results that can be viewed from a distance. Furthermore, you can interact with widgets that let you take action with just a tap.

Other Features

iOS 17 also brings some other features and enhancements to various apps and services on your iPhone. For example:

Cleaning Up Space Junk: Solutions and Challenges for Orbital Debris Removal

Space junk, also known as orbital debris, is any human-made object that is no longer in use and remains in orbit around the Earth. Space junk can include defunct satellites, spent rocket stages, fragments from collisions or explosions, and even paint flakes or bolts. According to the European Space Agency (ESA), there are more than 34,000 objects larger than 10 cm, about 900,000 objects between 1 and 10 cm, and more than 128 million objects smaller than 1 cm in orbit. Space junk poses a serious threat to the safety and sustainability of space activities, as well as the environment and society on Earth. Space junk can travel at speeds of up to 28,000 km/h, which means that even a small piece of debris can cause significant damage or destruction to an operational satellite or spacecraft. This can result in the loss of valuable services such as communication, navigation, weather forecasting, or scientific research. Moreover, space junk can create more debris through collisions or break-up...
